I got this inlet manifold from sbd earlier, to fit some secondhand jenvey 40mm tbs that are on there way.
Look at the gasket match! Surely that cant be right? The inlet ports on the head are the same size as the gasket.
Will the injector bosses be in the throttle bodies?
I paid extra for a water heater pipe, so I can maintain my heater matrix, I got the pipe but there is no boss on the manifold for it to connect to. Is there another version or do have to get it machined?
I spoke to SBD and they said that it is the right one, that the ports are a different shape due to the injectors being in a different position. That there is plenty of bulk there to take them out if you want.
Seeings as ChrisB has already gasket matched the head he's now got a lot more work to do!
Thats stupid, no way in hell im matching that. It'll take forever!
No cutout for the injector, fair enough. But what about the massive step left on the head which is gonna be great for gas flow.... Not.
The taper V's parallel may not make much difference all other things being equal. But if thats the best they can do for parallel bodies when clearly the taper manifold looks great. I'd be inclined to dump your parallel bodies and get taper ones.
I don't think the 25-30deg bend in the inlet manifold is too bad at all for air flow. The opening on the inlet manifold for the tapers on the TB side is 42mm dia iirc, so not much use for 40 or 45mm parallels, but they should physically bolt on.
Just a better Manifold would see the parallels doing very well. Mine will be 48mm parallels mounted on a manifold which does not have the angle on it, but then I'm making my manifold myself... nice and slooooooowly lmao
I know, I know, but the Dbilas manifold looked pretty good at Trax 02, it has a set of injector bosses on it, but you can plug them, just ask for a carb manifold....
SBD's line is that they make the ports so that they are slightly smaller than the ports on the engine with the smallest ones (1.4 I imagin). That because we have taken the head out to match the gasket there is loads we need to take out of the manifold.
I also need to machine and tap the flange to fit the water pipe (which they also sold me)
i had to do the same when i fitted my jenvey bodies, got them from bat motorsport, with a wizard manifold, looked like yours but with more of an angle, takes ages but its kinda satisfyong doing it yourself, or am i just weird?
i used a porting kit that i got from tweeks, as decent bits for removing ally seem to be hard to find
I'd rather have a larger port size throughout its length. There's no way I'm going to be able to open it out for all that. Also rather not have the angles at the body mounting as that will need smoothing. And will also place the trumpets closer to the bulkhead (not into experementing with pulse reflection plates just yet!).
The injector bosses are in the bodies themselves. This was the norm on the old style bodies that bolted to readily availiable carb manifolds AFAIK.
Yeah, I'm trying to remember, that end opening is coolant. The one blanked off is EGR. I guess some sort of adaptor is needed?
The head has injector cutouts in the ports like the 20XE (as seen on the gasket). I can't see how I could make these on the manifold to match with the head so there is going to be a nice step left there to bugger gas flow.
