Thumbs up Breather Modification on C20LET

Has anyone done the breather mod on the C20LET Turbo engine.

Which is the correct mod for this engine on a Calibra Turbo (95).

The correct mod would be to remove the induction kit and replace with standard airbox and performance filter.

The under-bonnet temperatures are too hot for the induction kit. You will more likely suck in hot air which further reduces performance rather than the increase you are looking for.

If you insist on the mod tho, then it should be the same as th 20XE mod as they are basically identical engines.

The breather mod is the same as on the XE, Thecavman has this mod done on his, although as Richie has already said, stick with the standard induction box.
Couldn't think of anything good to put in here.

    Thank's but Too Late guy's.

I'm not about to waste the Blitz cone which i've had on for about 4 months now and it doesn't run with any problems.

I made a heat sheald housing round the cone and directed air ducting to it which draws air in form under the bumper through an intake.

I'm just wonderng if anyone has done and found this mod worth it, but as I said I havent had any problems really apart from the odd bit of jumping as you do get..

Do you often sit in traffic? Thats the real killer for it. I've heard that alot of tunres say to put the standard box back on when you chip it or tune it since no other air filer/induction kit has been found to perform better.

Not really had any problems through sitting in traffic! This may be due to the heat shield preventing most of the hot air from getting to the filter.

But has anyone who's done this mod on a C20LET think its worth it.
Places such as REGAL charge 60 ish, to do this mod & recomend it as one of the first mod's to perform?

    Richie,
You have this engine! obviously with the regualar mod's i.e/ exhaust, charge cooler etc.

Have you done this breather mod? is it worth doing.

I take it the correct mod would be the first diagram with the series of holes?

I have a panel filter and standard airbox in my car so have not needed to do this breather mod.

The one in the Technical Archives is the correct method tho.

    Cool

    Cheer's guy's.

Does anyone have the email address for THECAVMAN or anyone else who's done this mod to this engine.

I'm just a bit cautious about drilling & cutting parts of my engine unless its really needed or worth it, without any side effects if you know what i mean!!

Now This obviously goes against what everyone else has said. But, so far, I have had no problems with my C20LET and JR induction kit with 'kangarooing'. I have not carried out the crank case breather mod either. The only thing i did do was to clean out the channel which is plated off and resealed it. The engine is in a different car, the bonnet gets very hot, but boost levels for the modifications are approximately correct, a bit more than standard. The only trouble i do have is a heavy right foot.

    Good point!

In the archive it tells you to remove & drill the plate but nothing about refitting and sealing it.

    What sealant did you use??

By the way I've never really had any problems either with my induction but the breather mod seems to be quite a highly rated one for people using cone filters.

    Smile

    Okay,

So what type of sealent did you use for attatching the plate back on? Is a piece of piss!!

Do recomend this mod for a Calibra with - Full Scorpion system (de cat), Blitz cone filter & a large intercooler?

As I said, I've not really had any problems!!

I used Silli gasket, gasket sealer sparingly around the edges when re-fitting. If you dont have any problems with the way the car runs with the cone filter on just now then its not wort doing as it wont make any differance.

I used the same stuff that was, i believe originally used by vauxhall. It's the same stuff they use on the sump gasket. White tube, black sealant that's a bit like mastic when it dries.

    Cheer's Guy's,

I think I'll wait and see how it goes before i do this.

One thing tho! If I did do this mod when it wasn't really needed i.e/ the pressure in the case isnt that extreme, would this affect the engines running in any negative way as for me to wish I hadn't bothered?

    Cheer's..
