In a couple of weeks there is going to be a 0-60 shoot out near me so the other night I decided to try a full on abusive start in the mini and found that I ended up with the clutch just slipping in 1st,2nd and 3rd back off after that because I realised something was wrong and then the almighty smell of the clutch.
This clutch has not done that much milage but has been abused quite often and was bought from vauxhall but I think it was a re-surfaced item as I had to give my old back in exchange.
I bought another 3part clutch kit but this time from a local partco and I presume this item was a new one as I did not have to give them my old unit in exchange. This was a luk one.
Today I have changed the clutch and found that there was plenty of meat on the clutch plate so can't see why it was slipping. I did check the adjustment of the cable before buying a new one.
Also I found that the old clutch plate had double thinner springs where as the new one had single but much thicker springs.?
any comments on my assumptions whether I am right or wrong.
oh and how happy was I to have changed from a pot type flywheel to a flat type. Made life alot easier to change it.
