my mate in work is looking at buying or swapping his mk3 astra 1.6 for a mk2 1.6 cabriolet, we went to look at it tonight and it is a lovely looking car, blue, with gte front bumber and zender splitter, testorassa skirts, tsw venoms , but at a closer inspection the passenger rear arch is totally rusted out, and at one point has had its slam panel replaced, the car is on a q plate, and weve been told it is a k plate , but was stolen and recovered, the chassis number has been removed and a new number welded in its place, which made me a bit wary also there is no vin plate under the bonnet,
1) what i really want to know is if its stolen recovered do they put new chassis numbers on or some type of mark
2)also i thought mk2s only ran up until j plate, so it could not be a k, but i could stand corrected .
3) how much typically is the cost of a new rear arch to be welded and resprayed properly
4) how can we verify that it is stolen and recovered and not just stolen !!!!!
5) i thought mk2 cabroilets were 1.8 or 2.0, i wasnt aware of 1.6 , am i right or did they make one with this engine
and anything else you can think of we need to check or look out for
its at a garage and the guy didnt seem to know anything about it as he was selling it for some one else, or was just playing dumb
a quick response would be much appreciated as i think hes set himself on this car and i wouldnt want him to be duped into buying a car that is not as genuine as it seems and will cost him a lot of money in the near future, im looking for your advice as well as all of your opinions, i think he may be going for it tommorrow night
