When the engine has been cranked to TDC, how do i go about holding the cam steady whilst changing the cambelt, water pump, tension idler, and thermostat. And do i need to remove the cam sprocket and back cover to remove the thermostat.
Don't worry if the cam moves, just make sure you put it back when you put the new belt on.
I can't remember about the thermostat. I think the housing is out of the way of the sprocket, but the plastic cover may be in the way. It's easy to take the sproket off anyway.
K, cheers mate.
Do you mean if the cam moves when the belt has been removed, i just need to line the notch on the cam and back cover up with each other.
Yes. One or two valves are part way open when the notches are lined up, so it usually turns a bit at they try and shut.
Just put a socket on the bolt and line it up again when you put the new belt on.
Lovely, been a great help.
