    Driveshaft

Last week I changed the driveshafts on my astra GSi for reconditioned ones.
I also fitted a new driveshatf balancer, The haynes stated it should be 268 - 270mm away from the inner CV joint. So I fitted it at 270mm.
Upon removing the old shaft I noticed the balancer was 280mm from the inner joint.

Now my problem starts. i changed both front tyres at the same time.
Before fitting the tyres and shafts the steering was spot on, Now I have wheel wobble at around 80 mph.
Obviously I will have the wheel balance checked,
But what should the balancer be set at????

that weight is similar diametre to the cv joints. Could just as easily be the cv's putting things off balance.

Terry, Are you using the wrong Driveshaft mate?,
If your car is still the Astra GSi then you should fit the GSi Shaft, the normal shaft (with balancer) will fit your car but you really need the Shaft that is in two sections and mounts onto the rear of your engine.
Just guessing but I think thats right.

Both the driveshafts are from Vauxhall, Fully reconditioned. The balance is even new from Vaux, So all should be correct

Bren, I might sound stupid now but what do you mean?
These shafts are what is listed for my car, and exactly the same as what came off the car. What is this shaft which come in 2???

I use the thicker shafts with the alloy mout similar to your engine mount that bolts onto the engine,
I have taken a picture of the spare one that I have just bought for mine but I can't find the uploader thing on Mig, Gonna keep looking so i'll post it up when I find it.

Not sure if its for strength or smoothness.

But 90% sure they were original equipment on the Astra Gsi.
