sounds healthy to me. Some GTEs I have been in read 2 bars on the gauge at warm idle, but maybe they are a bit low.
Does anyone know if the oil pressure, low warning sensor and the normal pressure warning sensor are the same thing on a 20Xe?
kind of, they are both built into the same sender, yes.
The low pressure switch part will either be a sealed single connector, or a spade connector. The variable pressure sender bit will have its own wire with a bare copper tube style push on connector (pushes over a serated pin on the sender)
Mine flicks around, i;m pretty certain the sender is shagged because it read max until i disturbed it recently. And there was something rattling around in the casing. I only reffitted it because i was skint, and there would be a "slight" oil leak without that sender in the back of the oil pump lmao
If the copper tube connection Odders was on about is loose it spins on the connector as you drive and the needle goes stupid. Basically is breaks/gives a bad connection for a fraction of a second which makes it flick about - if you disconnect it the needle reads over max so it ends up competing with itself lmao
Crimp up the connector gently with some pliers and it should be fine.
Cheers 0dders and Phazer, twas indeed the wire had fallen off the back off that ****y copper pipe connector thing. A slightly crimped bullet connecter and a set of pliers later and I'm away again. Checked it was not sender failing open by nearly stalling the car and the pressure did go down correctly. How rare for a problem to be fixed so quickly and easily
astragsi2016v, some might say that thats a little low, 2 bars at idle certainly would worry me. Search for anything to do with this and my username should reserect my oil pressure problems from the past.
