I recently replaced the oil in my 'box. When refilling it I only managed to get 1.5 -1.6 litres in before it started coming out of the level check hole (should take 1.8 - 2 shouldn't it?).
Anyway to get to the point I had a look under the bonnet as there was an oily smell in the car. There is a pool of gearbox oil sitting on the top of the 'box in the recess below where you fill it.
Does this mean some kind of seal has perished? Before anyone suggests it, I didn't spill any oil when filling it
Suggestions appreciated as I don't want to be shelling out for a new 'box due to it losing oil.
