On my 93 1.8 cav, there is a small oil leak which seems to be coming from the clutch bellhousing against the engine block. Can I remove the clutch bellhousing without removing the engine from the car? I would like to remove it, clean the faces, and fit a new gasket.
i dont see any reason why youd need to remove the engine from the car, just unbolt the bellhousing and associated ancillaries refit new gasket, top up transmission fluid.. job done. Be careful its quite heavy..unless ur a weightlifter use a trolley jack to support it.
Thanks mate, hopefully not anything which necessitates engine removal!! I have washed the block and the oil is still appearing on the join between the block and the bellhousing though -directly underneath the distributor cap
