Apologies about the pic quality. Well, the orange line in the pic is where mine's gone. If you can't make it out, it's inbetween the middle of the two rack mounting points, but closer to the nearside one.
Why it should go there & not next to a mounting bolt etc is beyond me. Also, I only noticed it when the sound deadening was removed - it would have gone totally unoticed for years & probably already has!
Is it just a case of running a weld down it? The rest of the bulkhead is fine.
my bulkead split the other side. slightly different design on the mk2 though. caused by multiple years of wet carpet syndrome. i.e it rusted the spot welds, which then tore off the bulkhead behind the steering rack mount.
That's what I don't get about this one. I understand damp soundproofing holding moisture against vulnerable metal (e.g spot welds) but this is on a flat (ish) surface and the soundproofing wasn't even touching it.
Must be just stress and shock loads acting on the bulkhead.
Now I'm worried that after I've welded it up properly, it'll split somewhere else.....................
All the more reason for totally stitch-welding my entire engine bay!
