I have an idling problem on my Mk2 1990 Astra SXi (revs are way too low most of the time, sometimes they are fine) and am told by several people that it could well be the ECU temp sensor.
I'm a bit naff when it comes to mechanics and don't really want to change it unless it's necessary as I don't have ramps etc.
Does anyone know an easy way to check it without swapping it out ?
If the idling is too low then it's probably due to a carbon build up in the intake. Try spraying some carb cleaner into the throttle body valve, and making sure the breather hoses that go from the rocker cover to the throttle body are not clogged up. Also check your air filter isn't clogged up either - the car idles low because it can't 'breathe' properly.
I had the same problem on various cars I've owned in the past and that was what was causing the problem.
