For reasons which are alien to most Mig members, I'm considering transplanting a C20LET into my Astra Mk4 using a Cavalier/Vectra V6 automatic gearbox. From my point of view, it has to be an auto so the V6 autobox is the only option to handle significantly more power than a 2.0 non-turbo. Although the 2.5 V6 will give me the power I want, the fuel consumption would be excessive, whereas I know that that a standard-spec turbo will still give reasonable fuel consumption, AS LONG AS the power isn't used as well!
Has any Mig member fitted a V6 auto box to a LET?
What might be involved in such a transplant?
Your experience and help would be much appreciated.
You might have to get a custom ECU that can talk to the automatic gearbox ECU ie. to tell it when to change up/down gears, what to do when you press the 'S' (sport mode) button on the gear lever, etc.
What about putting in a 2.0 16v turbo and auto box in your Astra from something like a Saab? They come as standard in the combination of engine and transmission you are after, wouldn't have thought it would be difficult seeing as they are based on a Cavalier, and the gear lever in most Saab cars is the same GM one that is used in the Astra/Cavalier/Corsa/Omega/Vectra so I suspect the gearbox might be the same too.
I believe the automatic gearbox used on a Cavalier/Vectra V6 is known as the 'AF22'.
To be honest though mate I reckon it would be cheaper and easier in the long run to just dump a 2.5 V6 engine with auto box in your Astra.
