I used to work for manufacturing engineering in V6 at Ellesmere Port, you would be amazed at how little information was often passed to us about design change. If it was a manufacturing based decision then it was often requested by us, but other than that, i.e. emission development or even performance we had nothing to do with it.
I recall when we tried the first 2.6 block down the line they had modified one of the outer cylinder bore strengthening ribs, unfortunatly no one had consulted us and it caused a problem on nearly every single machine down the line, cos on a lot of stations we clamped on the rib (which now wasn't there) or machinery was obstructed by the new position.
