Its quite a long drawn out process to convert, going from a carbed 1400 8v Nova Sport to Tbs. It is easier for you because i assume your later car has injection. So you wont need fuel lines pump and tank. You should already have a lambda sensor, air temp and water temp sensor. and if youve got a e1400 nz from a later car have a crank speed sensor. All things ive had to retro fit. Im running DTA management, and sorry to all you sbd boys out their, DTA is a far superior bit of kit to MBE, it has far more parameters to adjust (if you want) and is easy to play with on the move, by the user, in fact its childs play to run in closed loop and map on the move with a friend using the laptop in the passenger seat monitoring the lambda sensor read out and adjusting. Setting everything up by the user is easy ie traction control if you have abs sensors. Anyway going back to kit of bits you need a manifold (dcoe type used for carbs) they dont make direct to head bodies for 8vs jenvy bodies, throttle pot and linkadge from jenvy. Speak to Velos Motorsport if you want a similar set up but itll be around 2 grand or more depending on how much development you want.
At the moment I think im the only one Crazy enough to have gone this far with the J series small cc engine, but then its effectively giving the out put of a standard 2lt valver and the engine is 60kgs lighter and in several classes lower for motorsport.
mbe is easy to map on the road, they all are....its just the lambda sensors dont give accurate enough readings, so the resulting map is crap unless you use a proper wide range sensor. the mbe maps itself by the way, creating a map of changes needed to get to set lambda values.
having said that i would have prefered an option with the sbd kit as i do believe the dta is a better bit of kit.
