My mate has just bought a cav turbo to break and the c20let will be going into his astra GTE. Had a spot of bad luck with this car; The car let us down coming back from where we picked it up. There was a big "woosh" noise that was heard when driving and the car was suddenly loosing power, well, to a point that it died, so we pulled over to the hard shoulder.
Tried starting it again and it just wouldn't idle at all and when we tried to get it going again, the engine was struggling i.e. the revs were fluctuating then it would conk out.
4x4 light came whilst driving and engine management light too. The AA came out and couldn't find what the problem was. I checked all around the AFM and associated hoses, no leaks or air gaps. The AA abandoned us, so we had to wait for a break down truck to come and toe the car back to oxford. bearing in mind this was at night (11pm), we was none the wiser about why this damn car was not holding up. got it home, checked out that the intercooler hose came off which is why it lost all power. Cav was fine after that, what a plus!.
the tranny box light is still on, so i told my mate to take it for a spin and boot it away from lights. sure enough, the front wheels spin so that concluded my opinion of the transfer box. But am I wrong? theres no switch for changing between 2wd and 4wd and fuse 19 was removed when towing. how else can i detect whether the transfer box is totall dead? also the handling is terrible, so presume its on a permanent 2wd mode?
