For whatever reason my 175bhp + XE went pop and I'm still not really sure why.
I like the feel of the Astra as it stands, though have yet to give it some stick since I am waiting on a cam-belt change.
Modifying these engines plays a large part in most people's lives on here. If I keep the GTE for any period of time I will modify it. I have a manifold, cams, 57i all sitting waiting to be sold, there is no real temptation to add them to the Astra, money is what I need right now.
My question is simple.
I will modify this car when I can afford it but I don't want to drive it with Kid Gloves for fear of it going bang.
Some1 told me that when you bore out a block you weaken it, that seems sensible, so where do you go?
Keeping the 1998cc is fine with me, so if you were to add a special head, different fuel regulator, panel filter, full exhaust system and a few other bits, you're safe as houses with engine strength I assume.
I am selling the fast road cams from the cav, I know they give healthy bhp gains but from what I understand the standard XE cams are pretty damn good. Plus the after market cams must stress the pistons/shaft?
What is the sensible limit on modifying this engine and what sort of gains are realistic?
