I finished work at lunchtime today, roads were dry and dead quiet so I decided to give the car a bit of a work-out on the way home.
40 miles of sustained 100+ (erm...kph obviously ) was most enjoyable.
Turned off the dual carriageway and onto A-roads. Old git in a beemer wafting along at 50 so I drop down to 3rd at about 70 and boot it past him. Just as i was pulling in again the car gave a huge stutter, loosing all power for a fraction of a second before picking up again. (it wasnt the rev limiter) The ECU warning light came on but only for about 5 seconds.
The car drives normally but the revs hang up at 3k rpm, and very slowly trickle down to normal idle speed. The throttle isnt jamming as the linkage returns as normal.
If I use the gears to slow the car down, it does so as normal.
Just sitting at idle, if i rev it up, the revs hold at about 3k and take about 30 seconds to slow down again, but if i put it in gear and slip the clutch to drop the engine speed, the revs drop normally.
It doesnt misfire and when driving doesnt seem to have lost any performance.
No fault codes were logged. and nothing looks amiss in the engine bay.
Im presuming its due to some poxy sensor somewhere but I have no clues which one. I hate electronics.
Oh, one more thing, I think either the middle silencer or the CAT is beginning to collapse internally as I can hear a rattle when I rev it up. This has been like this for a while though and I dont see how this could be a cause of todays problem?
