i fitted a new cambelt and tensioner yesterday.
haynes say that for a new belt, the tesnioner pointer should be pointing at the slot on the backplate, but for a used belt it should be sitting 4mm to the left.
i set it up and ran the engine, and the pointer moved far to the left of the slot. when i stopped the engine (after a min or 2) the pointer sat far to the right (implying over tension).
i fired it up today and the pointer again moved far to the left of the slot, but when i killed it the pointer is now sitting about 4mm to the left of the slot (where haynes say a 'bedded in' belt should be adjusted to).
i've only had the engine running for a total of about 5 mins, is that enough to bed it in?
does this sound right, or before i put all the covers back on should i re-adjust it?
i might just put it all back together and have a look at where it is next weekend... whaddya think?
