Hi chaps, i dont know if you will be able to help but i was just wondering if there is anything i should be aware of about my engine, e.g what could wrong, is it expensive, and at what miles approx, etc
Correct me if I am wrong guys, but as far as I know Vauxhall still don't admit there is a problem with the plastic idlers (despite the demise of a number of engines due to timing belt failures secondary to idler breakage). I don't think there has ever been a recall. My car has the same engine (1.6 16V) and Vauxhall havn't done a thing to the timing belt since new, and it was a network Q car also. I am going to change my belt and idler at 36,000 despite the recommended 70,000 interval from Vauxhall.
I can't remember entirely but I think there was a limited recall due to Watchdog etc etc
They produced a different idle wheel but its still made from nylon, so prone to falling apart - it should be changed on a major service with cambelt change but its a good idea to check. Best bet is to bin them for alloy jobbies, they cost about £70-80 from Velos, SBD etc...
