Would you recommend doing an oil change on my car, its done 36 500 miles, and when cold its a bit notchy, is it true that to drain the gearbox oil you should undo the differential plate at the bottom of the gearbox to clean the old out, replace a new plate gasket, undo the breather/filler plug, undo the gearbox oil level plug, refill gb with specified oil intill it runs from the oil level plug, replace the oil level plug, then replace the breather/filler plug.
Is this right or wrong, if its wrong could someone tell me the correct way please, thanks alot.
Not exactly sure on that one, as you will probably know Vauxhall recon the oil will last the life of the gearbox so don't specify a change mileage.
Meant to say earlier that if its normal gear oil in your box and you can use the Dexron stuff, it might improve the change. I also have a Manta which is filled with a special GM synthetic oil specified for this Getrag box. The same box was fitted to some BMW 3 series (E30) but BMW specified normal oil and a change something like every 24000 miles. The BMW box was always a bit notchy, especially when cold and compared to the Manta and it wasn't unknown for BMW owners to book their car into the Vauxhall dealer to get the GM oil into the box.
So yes, probably worth doing - can't do any harm and its easy to do.
