Over the weekend my XE started knocking, on further inspection iy had spun a shell round the crank. I have been told that if this happens then I will need a crank grind. I have no been looking into the options and wondered if you could give me your opinions.
1. I have been offered a 100k XE that is runnin with box loom and ECU for £300 do I just buy this and bang it in.
2. Do I take my engin out, strip it down have the crank reground and all new bearings, hone and ring at the same time, get a new conrod and put mine back together and put it in, would cost more than buying the XE in 1.
3. Buy the XE for £300 fit a set of big end shells due to the mileage and bung it in knowing I have the other XE to either rebuild or use/sell as spares.
4. Any other options you can think of.
I fancy the thought of buying this XE and replacing the shells with standards before it goes in, is it as simple as that can I just put new shells in without doin other stuff to the crank, is this the best way to go to prolong the life of the engine or is it likely to give me grief in a months / years.
Basically I have spent the last 3 months building my 2.0 16v Nova, I drove it legaly for 2 day and the engine now has to come out. I don't want the same rigmorole again if I can avoid it.
Please help as I need to snap up this XE asap if this is the way to go.
