I think I might be changing the alternator on my Astra GSi very soon
I've been toying with the idea of fitting a bigger one instead.
What size alternator can i fit?
Are diesel items a straight swap, or is some modding required??
What about the fan belt? which one would i need?
What engine is in an Astra GSI, C20XE or X20XE?
Anyway, you should be able to fit any old 70A, 90A or 120A GM amp on the car. Its the type of roller on the end that matters as there are 'ribbed' and 'smooth'. If you get the wrong one, then your fan belt won't fit. But you can exchange rollers.
Think you can because I've got both a C20XE and C20LET engines. Since tkaing the C20LET apart I noticed that its a 70 or 90A unit, and it looked the same as the one fitted on the C20XE (which I belive is the 70amp unit).
But both engines used the ribeed fan belt. I also noticed that the pullys looked like they could be rmoved and hence fit a smooth roller if possible. The only thing that may get in the way is there is 1 long bolt that it pivouts on. This metl bracket could be differet and hence a different amp 'case' where the moutings go for this long bolt.
If you have EPC its easier to see. I do want to change the 90amp alt on my C20LET for a 120amp unit as found on the C20XE/X20XE engines.
