Guys, can anyone let me know what sort of price resurfacing the block of my Astra would be. This is a continuation of previous posts, to recap head gasket went was fixed, went again 1 week later went back to garage found prob was a crack in the block, quite bad, a lot of corrosion and it looks as if it has blown a part of it out. I've had the car since May and the garage reckon it has been going for a while, I've been losing water since I've had it and I let the garage know at the time but I'm thick......don't know anything about engines and took there explanation. Anyway, what sort of price will I be looking at, any ideas?
Without looking it's not possible to say, but blocks don't usually crack unless the thread holes haven't been cleared before reassembly.
Another thing is, when they took the head off they should follow a procedure for removing head bolts (outer first and work inwards), and engine must be cold before head is removed other wise it can cause it to warp.
Heads ought to be checked/skimmed before they go back on anyway, false economy in the long run.
Carying on from the above problem i have now found out that the pressure has blown out part of the metal on the block. how much is a new or second hand block for astra sport 2000 16valve ecotec engine. cylinder head is ok just the bottom end is the prob.
