I just thought I would put up a post about my plans for my engine as it is in pieces at the moment and I have yet to get it to run well without pinking at 7psi.
I have had to take the turbo manifold off due to it blowing after having a box removed from my exhaust. That has now been welded up and skimmed.(They decided to unbolt my down pipe from the block and ended up putting more stress on the manifold when extremely hot.)
Then with it being partly stripped I have decided to go back to fitting 2 head gaskets as I have never checked to see wether it has been skimmed in the past. I have had the C20XE pistons machinned but I do not think it has taken the compression ratio down low enough to prevent my pinking. Fitting the second head gasket should ensure that the compression is certainly low enough for turbo.
I have also in the past fitted a C20LET exhaust cam which did make a big difference although it did still pink but no where near as bad as before. I retained the C20XE inlet cam. I am now going to fit the other C20LET cam and reduce the overlap. I think with the use of a turbo from a 1.3 although a T3 and the manifold which will flow very bad as I was restricted with space causing a build up of pressure before the turbo and the overlap is allowing excess heat back into the bores causing pinking.
Seeing as the head is coming off and as animal has been offering his porting services I have decided to have some mild porting done and the inlet manifold matched to the head and the throttle bodies. Hopefully he should have the head some time this week and hopefully put some pics up of what work he does to it. Thanks Animal.
Hopefully then once it is back together it should be able to run 15psi without any problems and then get a tidy power run and see how much power this car is capable off producing.
Hopefully before it does go back together I can measure the chamber and piston dishes etc to work out what my compression ratio actually will be once back together.
Any comments about the mods planned.
