After two years of Nova ownership, I'm looking for a new car. Was looking at a 1.8 Focus Zetec, but not many 3 door ones on the 2nd hand market. But, I like the look of the 3dr Mk4 Astra...so I might go after a 1.8 16v one of those.
Anyone got any comments, pros/cons of the new astra? what is the engine like power wise? what could be done to up the power?
From what i know, and i stand to be corrected, the MK4's have Lotus designed suspension, and therefore excellent handling.
The engine will be of the Ecotec variety. Some love em, some hate them, but the bottom line is they are good strong engines that do the job they are designed for.
Yes, power can be upped, in fact major gains result from tuning. Because the Ecotec is designed to be green, it carries a few faults in breathing, but nothing that cant be sorted out.
I think the 1.8 gives around 115bhp in standard form.
Got a friend who has a 1.6 Fiesta Zetec. Nice car and very quick, but i cant help thinking its still a Ford, and with one too many Cortina's die on me, i hate Fords. lol
great car you won't be sorry, a very tuneable engine as well. novembers total vaux did a mk4's 1.4 and 1.6 16v's tunning guide. the 1.6 is tuneable to over 250bhp apparently. so i'm sure you could get the 1.8 to do something interesting.
the 1.8 is putting out around 120bhp. 0-60 in 8.5 seconds and should do 40mpg too
it's like kph and mph, just two diffrent ways of saying th same thing. but vauxhall seem to give the figures in ps now?? probably because it sounds more, but ps figure is always slightly higher...don't know anymore than that
i have the 2.0 16v SRi and am very pleased with it. i havent had any problems with it until i took it for a service at vauxhall and they f**ked it up. but apart from that i would say that they r quility cars
