My 1.8 Mk2 Astra SXi idles badly and at low revs and when slightly warm cuts out and will not start for mintues.
I think I need to clean the idle control valve and replace the coolant temperature sensor.
I guess there are a million+ posts about this but would someone be good enough to give a mechanical novice instructions on doing both the above and how easy it is to do as I don't have a ramp so getting at the underneath is a nightmare.
well for starters i can please you in saying that you wont need a ramp as both are present next to the throttle body (back central area)
The ECU Temp Sensor is present on the inlet if i remember right and is removed using a 13mm ring spanner (dont quote me on this size) Youll experience some coolant loss so undo the sensor with the coolant reservoir lid off. Easy bolt off bolt on. Then top up the coolant with the recommended fluid
The Idle control valve is spherical and is present near the throttle body. Easy to remove and clean using carb cleaner to remove the carbon deposits. Once your satisfied its clean squirt a bit of WD40 in there to expel any moisture and keep all freely moving.
Someone on here with EPC will provide you with the relevant photos for your engine. Just let them know what code your engine is. I think the SXi's are C18SE
Well I took the ICV off and it was fairly clean but cleaned it anyway but didn't help the idling much, I think I just need to adjust the tick over screw to bring it up 200 and get round to replacing the temp sensor as a precaution.
