Fault 16 Knock Sensor C20XE
Ok so i've been running down my error codes and i'm left with one!
Code 16 Knock Sensor
Engine is a c20xe, had a rebuild and has done 1650 miles on it since!
So my questions are could this be a wiring fault? Or is the engine detecting knock and if so what are the reasons/effects of having knock?
Also what can be done to fix this problem?
Just one other thing, today I replaced the knock sensor with another one from a spare engine and no change, also have the correct nplug on (RED)
Thanks, any advice and ideas/theories are welcome!

Re: Fault 16 Knock Sensor
Did you clear the codes after changing the sensor?
The code generally means that the ecu is not getting a signal back from the sensor which woul be either because the sensor is funked or the wire/connector is damaged.
If its not getting a knock signal it will go into a safe mode and retard the timing which will limit your power

Re: Fault 16 Knock Sensor
No I didn't clear the codes, how can that be done??? Disconnect the battery or do I need a fault reader??
The code is 16 knock sensor - no change in voltage. So this means that its not getting a signal?? Right!!!
Thanks for the reply

Re: Fault 16 Knock Sensor
Just one other thing and this may sound stupid but just want to eliminate the posibility that I painted the blocked and I know under the sensor is painted would this make a difference?
Just read a thread about putting a washer between the sensor and the block so was just wondering!

Re: Fault 16 Knock Sensor
Yeah thats probably your problem. Sand it back to clean bare metal and try it.
Kilkenny to Germany is some move! although the way things are here now you're probably better off

Re: Fault 16 Knock Sensor
Yeah its a long way but hey not much in ireland right now!
Yeah think i'll sand back the paint as its pretty thick and take it from there. Just had a look €67 for a new knock sensor, wow!
