cheers guys. I believe its isuzu..did they do another 1.7??

these ecu and pump failures - common or just the usual 'this can happen' as with any cars? if common, how can I check them? (if possible lol)

isuzu engine. if the top end taps been neglected on the servicing. found this out myself recentley. make sure you get engine hot. as from cold will sound ok due to oil being thick.

you got it the old ford tapping more of a single loud tap though. its cam wear thats all.

make sure the cambelt has been changed recentley as cam lobes are pressed on. not solid steel.when belt goes the cams are scrap.

Re: 1.7 DTI - Good engines?

Sorry to butt in but I have a 1.7DT engine that has a top end problem. Looks like cam carrier bearing are at fault as the cams will move up and down. Is this a real problem to fix? Do I need a new head or are the bearings renewable. Thanks

sounds like you need a new cam carrier. prob cheaper to buy a good second hand one complete with cams.
could be bearings. more than likely the cam carrier is worn. milage?

Re: 1.7 DTI - Good engines?

Don'tknow how long it's been loose...bought the car as it is now (cheap)...Do the cam caps contain renewable bearings? I don't know if this will be a possible fix as there is very noticable movement in the cams. Thanks for all your help so far...very much appreciated.

you need to strip down the carrier give it a look over.might not take a bearing.
