vectra diesel engine light - intermittent

hi all,

i have a vectra 2.2 dti sri 2001 51 reg (y22dtr) i have recently fitted a second hand diesel pump 0470504016 as mine had a po1631 trouble code, started the car the after fitting new pump, fitted new battery, cleaned inlet manifold due to a lot of gunk in there and also had a new egr valve in august 2011, the car now runs and revs round to the limiter fine, yet if i leave it to idle for 30 seconds or so the engine light come on and goes in to limp mode, once car is stopped then restarted its fine as long as it's not left idling for 30 seconds or so, its been sat on my drive now for around 6 weeks doing my head in witht his fault, haven't taken it out on the road as it has no tax or mot, pretty pointless doing tax n mot if i haven't got it running fine yet, anyone had similair problems or could shed some light on this problem?? any common things i should be checking, i'm hoping it's not the pump again otherwise it'll be going and i'll be getting something smaller and quicker!!! HELP!!!

not read the codes yet, need to get my mate witht he snap on deivice to my house, just wondered if anyone had a similar prob, perhaps something i could check myself at home without a diagnostic check, i don't think its anything too seriuous otherwise eml would be on all the time, if i stop the engine and restart it'll run fine, if i hold the revs as tho i was driving it the light doesn't come back on until i return to an idle speed??? puzzled to say the least!

i had the codes read on my car today, it was a po400 which is supposed to be egr valve, it was a new one back in august so its still under warranty from megavaux in nottingham, as i said in earlier post the car starts and drives fine unless you come to a stop and it's left to idle for approx 10-15 seconds, the engine light comes on and goes into limp mode, however if i pull away from a stand still and approx 10-15 seconds driving the engine light goes off and limp mode turns off, anyone had a similar prob? is it the egr valve itself or perhaps a vac pump?

what do i need to do if i blank the egr valve off? do i block the hose that goes to egr? how does it affect the running of the car? fuel consumption and performance?

Hey danny,

Been following your thread. I don't know about blanking the EGR, personally I wouldn't even try, but I figured I would mention that maybe the P0400 is due to a leak in the vacuum tubing somewhere (tubes, elbows) or a problem with the EGR solenoid valve. Maybe worth checking all that over carefully....
