    astra estate mk4 project

hey, im new to the group and maintaining my own car, i have spent a bit of time getting my car (99 t plate envoy estate 1.7td gm engine) in decent working order, but would like to take it on a stage. im wondering if anyone can offer advice on changing the engine, ive noted that this engine is not worth modifying so im interested in replacing it with a 2.2 tdi vectra/saab unit, i wonder how easy this is and what issues i would need to consider, changing gear box, fitment and wiring ect. any advice is appreciated, cheers

thanks for the reply paul, although its not what i wanted to hear. ive had a look around on the forums but cant find anything relevant, have you never heard of this being done? i like the astra and dont need a bigger car, but would like a better engine than the current one. would it not be possible to implant a vectra engine?

Not really seen anyone playing too much with diesel engine swaps.

Anything can be done, given your ability. I just think your going to end up chucking £xxxx at the car.

i think you may be right. ive already spent allot on the car getting it through previous mots and have done much work on it recently. to buy the 2.2 engine would be anything from 250 up and if gear boxes and the like are required it could just get silly. thanks for the advice paul.

Your going to have to at least budget £500 then.

    Increased insurance etc as well.

Buy a full donor car then you'll have everything you need. Don't forget things like the mounts, exhaust piping, intercooler pipes, even coolant pipes and the rad itself might need changing to suit the new engine so buy a full car and you'll have everything.

    Good luck with it!
