C20XE cam cover inner baffle plate

Does this need to be fitted inside or more importantly must it be siliconed in place or can it be fitted dry with out the fears of chucking oil through my breather system?

Good question, I am having a spare cam cover powdercoated soon and removed it (and the massive amounts of silicone sealant from GM) and wondered the same thing. Even with the sealant there is often still little hints of oil coming through and looking at the construction maybe there is not really much difference when fitted dry indeed...

I just did the mod whereby you cut and leave a small section to prevent oil getting back through into the inlet, no silicone.

Re: C20XE cam cover inner baffle plate

I suppose it comes down to preference really, the sbd method is to stop oil running along the top of the plate hence removing half of it while it looks like the idea behind the courtenay method is to drain any oil running along the top half way. Courtenay sport or sbd take your pick.....

I wasn't too worried about modifying it, just if it needed resealing. I'm guessing by the sbd method, sealant really is purely academic lol

The way I see it, if oil was creeping up round the edges of that plate and you needed sealant to stop it then you really have other things to be worrying about
