end of the day mate you can only take the guys word for the work that has been said is done unless he has proof, and if he does its realy down to you weather you want to swap it or not?

    Re: advice please c20xe

heres the full ad must say he has pics of the engine fully stripped down and split

    Still logged as a 1.6!

1998 80000 miles but this will rise mot 24th march / tax 28/02/12
Electric windows, central locking and all electrics work.
Both wishbones and lower ball joints replaced last week, tie rod ends where done around 2 months ago along with tracking.

Apex sport shocks and 40mm springs around 1 year old, 2l brakes on the front and gsi rear disk brakes on the rear, gsi rear anti roll bar and omp upper rear anti roll bar, ph2 gsi rear spoiler, dezent 16" deep dish alloy wheels in white all good tread tyres.

Fully rebuilt c20xe "redtop" engine fitted, crank was reground to 0.25 and bores honed, genuine mahle big and small end bearings, genuine mahle piston rings.
Genuine erling bottom end gaskets and seals fitted, genuine erling head gasket and seals fitted to head, valves cleaned and reseated genuine gm water pump all stretch bolts replaced with genuine gm bolts.
Gates timing belt and genuine gm roller and tensioner fitted.
Brand new LUK clutch kit fitted
I still have the receipts for most of these parts!

The engine has now done around 8000 miles the sump gasket leaks a little like all redtops do, i have tightend it to the SBD motor sport recomended torque setting of 11 LB/FT but i wont tighten it any further as the sump will crack as i found out before i rebuilt it.

I did try reconditiong the tappets but they are still noisey from cold start for a few minutes common on xe's
Apart from this it is a good strong xe engine pulls well threw all the f16's close ratio gears.
It has a full stainless exhaust system big magnex 4 into 1 manifold 2.5 " gives it a nice growling noise and noticeable torque, magnex decat, powerflow 2 + quarter " center section to a scorpion twin imola back box.

The astra its self could do with some tlc extrenaly, it has had a scrape against something before i had it on the passenger rear quarter panel, rust buble on passenger door, couple on boot and both rear arches are rusting but are ssolid and saveable.

Could do with new rear disk pads and hand brake shoes.

Slight problem with the camber at the front, it likes to pull slightly to the right, i have checked everything and its all tight, i also took it into mchonecys in ayr they agreed its down to it being lowerd and camber.

not sure tbh with you mate maybe best taking some one you trust with good knowlage/experiance with car/s mech's in general and getting him to give it a looking over then let him give you his opinion then maybe it will be easier to decide if you want to swap it or not?,

    hope this helps?
