1998 Astra 1.6 8v Terrible running issues. Overfueling?
Hi there,
I've recently bought an astra 1.6 8v spi which is not running well atall.
Symptoms
Whilst stationary:
When starting if it doesnt go first time you have to hold the throttle wide open to get it to start.
Once its started if you quickly blip the throttle the revs actually drop and will cut out if you keep blipping
If you hold the throttle down it will missfire really badly and slowly climb to about 2.5k then it will clear and fly up like it should.
When setting off:
The car feels like its massively overfuelling so when you set off, unless you hold the revs at about 3k+ and really slowly lift off the clutch the car bogs down and barely moves. God help you if you have to do a hill start!
When driving:
When driving if you press the throttle the car makes a loud induction noise and feels like it actually slows down. The only way to speed up is if you feather the throttle really lightly.
Once your moving though like on the motorway its fine cruising at a steady speed.
So:
The car is not very good on fuel, I'm getting about 70 miles to £20 and thats driving very carefully.
The car obviously doesnt run well under load and seems to over fuel.
I've recently changed the headgasket, blanked the EGR, changed the plugs, done the thermostat and I've got a lambda sensor on order.
What are the other possible causes I should be looking at? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers
Matt
