Forged rods and pistons for 500BHP+ LET

    For 500Hp+ 20let.
What brands rods and pistons would be preferred ?
I can get Arias and Wiseco pistons, I like Arias Pistons.
As for rods... So many options and lots of mixed comments....

I'll have to do the oil squirters mod also.
What else would be reccommended to do ?

    Re: Forged rods and pistons

Engine is still stock with 20let rods and 86mm 20let pistons.
I want to upgrade to forged items to make allot more power.

Concentrating on the bottom end for now:
I have ARP bolts all round.
I'll need to fit oil squirters if needed ?
    Oil pump upgrade ?
Block brace, is that necessary or only for very high rpm's ?
Not planning to rev too high, maybe 7500 - 8000rpm max.
Any other pointers / ideas ?

    Re: Forged rods and pistons

ARIAS are well known for large capacity engine pistons - 10 litre plus V8s and drag engines putting out close to 10,000 hp and I don't see why they shouldn't be able to design and build pistons for a LET.
Carillo have been in business for a long time and are very highly regarded in the business - a mate even used them in his Starlet.

    Re: Forged rods and pistons

    Thanks Gordo,
I can get Arias and Wiseco pistons here locally. Arias are R4500 for a set, just awaiting a price on Wiseco pistons.
I've mailed Carillo for pricing on their rods and pistons, still waiting for a reply.
Will have to import the carillo if pricing is good.

I'm trying to get everything on the bottom end sorted so it is very strong and I don't have to worry.
I'll start on the head later as cash flow permits.

    Re: Forged rods and pistons

    Carillo replied with pricing:
    Rods: R10600
    Pistons: R6500
That excludes shipping and import duties, pretty expensive

    Still awaiting Wiseco pricing.
