Novastien (just how does this car actually run)

Can anybody shed some light on my errr mostly nova 1.4 ohc I think, It has become clear that when I bought my nova it was actually made from a number of other car's, the list includes vectra, astra, cavalier, corsa b,corsa c and theres even some nova bits on it (lol), my problem today is (I believe) the ignition module, as it has just started cutting out for no real reason and now wont tickover unless at 3000rpm, after a bit of searching it would seem to have a 1.3 distributor on it (large black type with two wires coming out delco remey?). Can any body tell me is this even supposed to be on a 1.4 ohc engine?, as a new one that matches my engine number is clearly orange and has no wires.. Im confused

Id imagine it's a carb fault, rather than dizzy, if it ran ok in the past?, it probably just needs a tune up, but I have a Bosch dizzy for it, if needed.

Cheers for the response, it has a pierburg 2e3 on and although it's somewhat of a incomplete unit it is set up well and has been running very well, economical and responsive on the peddle, the problem occurred last night whilst stuck in traffic, It just died.. It started again and tick'd over slow and lumpy, I eventually had to stop and raise the tickover to around 3000rpm just to keep it running at traffic lights ect, and this is exactly how the car is now after spending most of the day tinkering, I noticed a ignition module on the distributor today also and after having a few xr3i's in my time I know these can be pigs, should it even have one at all ?

Yes a in-line fuel filter is fitted and the tank is in good shape inside and out. I have tried bypassing the tank altogether and feeding the carb direct from a squeeze bottle and its still the same, iv changed the plugs, leads, coil and carb none of these changes made any difference at all. This leads me to the distributor, when taking it apart i noticed that the ignition module looks brand new. Could running a 1.3 distributor on a 1.4 coil kill the ignition module?? could this be the reason it died in the first place ?

As said, idle jet blocking is very common. Leads to uneven running and stalling. Give all the jets a good old squirt of carb cleaner.
    They're there, in their room.

tried another carb (not the same type) didn't work tried cleaning three times with various results(none good) bought another distributor (the correct one for the engine) better but still lumpy, just bought another pierburg 2e carb, carb to manifold gasket and a inlet manifold gasket, I'll fit it tomorrow so hopefully fingers crossed it will work. if not the car's for sale! there's not allot left on the fitted carb so a complete unit would be better.

Could also have been a small biece of crap holding the float needle valve slightly open, causing it to run rich (mild flooding) until the fuel demand could use the excess fuel supplied.
