I had to do one on a Vectra 2.0 16v.. same problems as your having.. had to change the servo thing on the clutch pedal, and the slave thing in the gearbox...

It was a right bugger of a job.. 300 for bits from the dealers, and the gearbox had to come off..

    Never again..

It is the same as doing brakes really. Often, as the flud is higher than the bleed nipple you can just let gravity do the job for you.

It does sound like your seals have gone on the master cylinder though. Bleeding won't help.

jus had a look under the bonnet, seems pretty difficult to get at the cylinder, does the servo etc have to come off, hows that done? or is it done from inside the car.... when i pump the peddle, i can feel suction and blowing from the bleed nipple? is this right. i even tried connecting a master cylinder off a motor bike to the inlet tube from the resevoir and pumped it up but still got nothing out the nipple!!! is it possible to convert to a cable system... how would it be done?

All help is very much appreciated people!!

OK forget what I said about the master for now.

If you have pressurised the system with a pressure bleeder you should have got fluid through. Even if the master was goosed.

So, let's go back to the start.

    1. There is fluid in the reservoir

    2. The engine is running

    3. The bleed nipple is opened

    4. Press down pedal and hold down

    5. The bleed nipple is closed

    6. The pedal is released

Repeat until fluid comes out of the nipple. If you have done this and no fluid then there is a blockage in the pipes or one is kinked.

When you say you used an easy bleeder was it the type you connect to the spare wheel to force the fluid through?

ok people, erm no im not getting any fluid at all out of the bleed nipple, ive actually took the master cylinder off the car tonight, but not sure on how to check it for correct opperation. ive bodged a small resevoir up and held it higher than the cylinder, when i pump the it, nothing comes out the force side of it, is this right? not even slight suction, of expellation. but in ythe inlet side od the cylinder if i pup it u can feel it sucking and blowing... all help appreciated.,..... dont suppose any ones got a price for a new one have they!

Put it all back together. Fill with brake fluid, and bleed brakes.
When satisfied with them , move on to the clutch.
Don't press the clutch, just let the pressure do the work, and don't start the engine either.
    No go ?
Replace slave cylinder in the box and the master cylinder, both at the same time (or take your pick and only replace one).
