02 1.7 combo with the y17dt - replaced head now it wont start

i have an 02 1.7 combo with the y17dt engine, we have just replaced the head put it all back together but it wont fire up. it turns over fine but there was no fuel getting in to the fuel filter. presuming its a air lock?. it fires up with a squirt of easy start but cuts out again after a fiew seconds?????????? please help

easy start shoud NOT be used with diesel engines!

Have you primed the fuel rail? make sure that the ffilter is completley covered with diesel first!

filter was filled with fuel. it wont fire up without easy start and when it does it runs with revving for a couple of seconds then dies again.
