    Cleaning alloy... Head etc

    Just after some tips on how to clean/ prep alloy for paint?

    There is like a fur type build up on the head on my x16xe block and sump?

    All help appreciated...

    Blast with WD-40 will get most of it off especially if you give it a bit of a scrub with a dish brush. Then thoroughly degrease and wash down.

    When it's all totally dry you need special etch primer for the alloy parts, then normal topcoat on top.

    I'd 2nd dishwasher. Use a couple of tabs, but would rinse it thoroughly then wd it because it'll strip the thin corrosion layer off and leave it highly alkali, which will make it furr up in short order if untreated.

    I did that once then I had to spend 3 hours cleaning the insides of the dishwasher as there were bits of carbon from the brakes all over the dishes !
    Mrs Mac was not a happy bunny.

    yeah, or similarly acidic, mr muscle oven cleaner i used + an old scrubbing brush

    i have a decarboniser at work, its like a chemical hot bath, works very well left my 2.8i heads in for a day and came out very nicely
