Hi guys im new on here. I was wondering if i could have some help with regard to doing an engine change on a 2001 1.8 SXI Astra. My other half recently clumped the sump whilst going down to her stables (lowered car) and dumped all the oil and has spun a shell. Now i need to chuck another engine in. As i cant be bothered to rebuild it as from what i understand this particular engines are readily available and not to expensive i was wondering if there is anything that i should be aware of when doing the conversion. I am mechanically competant to a degree (i do all my own work on my clio) engine change, clutch, gearbox etc etc and i would have thought this would be more difficult as its in a tighter space than the astra (sorry if i made anyone
from mentioning a clio).
So basically any help would be greatly appreciated.
The first problem i have is i dont know the engine code. I have been told two different variations and tbh i not to sure if either one is correct. My gf seems to think its a Z18XE1 and a mate has told me its a X18XE. Unfortunatley as im clueless on vauxhalls i dont know who to believe lol. Could someone tell me where i could find the information of the engine as last time i looked it was dark which made it a tad difficult.
Apart from doing the Cambelt and waterpump (and possibly tensioners) would you recommend anything else whilst the engine is out of the car.....maybe a clutch?
Thanks for your help people
Dan
