Corsa b track car Engine options - help

Alrite guys me and a mate ate building A corsa b track car , started with cage etc buy we are arguing about engine and spec , he wants to build up an xe engine with 1 of they manifolds of eBay allows you to run t34 etc , with mega squirt management and a map,
I won't to buy a c20 let engine freshen it up chip, and normal management etc, my argument is

A.can xe pistons handle boost especially using t34

    B.oil feeds , returns etc,

    C. Price of mega squirt + map (as it's Jusy a budget track car )

Is t34 needed for what kind of power requires, as your only talking about 300 ish easily achieved from am let

    What do you'd thinks ??

Re: Help guys opinions required plz

If its just a budget track car,why not just XE it and leave it N/A??

Seen umpteen Corsa Turbo's go around Knockhill and not much make it to the next session.Usually by the end of the 1st session the smoke is belting out them.

For a budget track car,i would keep it N/A.

I think your mate's daft, period!
While you can run a turbo on XE pistons, the amount of boos you'd be able to run without problems will be maybe 3-5 psi - hardly worth the effort and loss of response.
What you guys should be looking at is an initially stock XE and F20, perhaps with an LSD of some type if there're a lot of tight corners. Then concentrate on getting the thing to handle and corner well - back in the day, I embarrassed a lot of much more powerful cars with a stock, and then mildly modified Chevette, as I was able to maintain higher cornering speeds and out brake them (may also be because I was a much better driver). This was on some tracks but more in hillclimbs, autocrosses, bent sprints, motokhanas (autotests) and the like.
Once the car's chassis and brakes are sorted, then you can think about adding more power.

XE won't be quick enough to enjoy in my opinion. You need something with a bit more power.

Buy a Clio 172 and strip it out

No what your saying mate, when I say budget don't mean want to build cheap as poss, just don't have a big wad of cash or I would have an Evo or ecos

With corsa turbo you can start playing with some evos scoobys etc

My thoughts exactly mate on engine

Shell is getting prepared just now and are building as well as we can to have handling and breaking as good as possible to handle power

Our local track, Knockhill is very small and I 100% agree handling breaking is very important , having bit more power for the straights is needed to

Had a look at the track and, especially for the 'national' layout, I am even more infavour of a stockish engine initially while you learn to drive it and get the car sorted - power is nice, but if you can carry the speed, it may be better in the long run - you can always build a decent turbo up on the side.
The other thing is, if you've a lot of power, it instills bad habits and you may not make the most of the rest of the package.

I'd chuck an XE in and sort the rest of the car first. Can have plenty fun with 170bhp/tonne.

I personally would still go XE,and for that extra bit oomph on the straights, fit a nitrous kit.Its a short track with only 2 straights for passing. The back straight isn't that big so wouldn't use too much gas.The pit straight is the killer with it being a massive uphill stretch but a wee shot to get going will come in handy off the hairpin.

Corsa Turbo's don't seem reliable around Knockhill.

Most of the Evo's and Scooby's that go up nowadays are mega quick. You might pull away on the straights, but come to the corners(which is what knockhill mainly is)they will be right on your bumper.

An stripped XE Corsa with a diff and a wee bit extra poke, will still be a good, quick, fun car.And it wont break the bank if it goes tits up.

It maybe does handle, just no where near as good as an Evo will.

That video gets pulled up all the time.

But when you actually watch the video, the Evo is in front until the Evo goes off, then it goes tearing past, but the Evo soon catches it up.

I bet if the Evo never went off, that video wouldn't exist as the Corsa would never have passed.

IIRC the Corsa was running about 260bhp and stripped out,and the Evo was about 380bhp.

The Corsa clearly can't touch the Evo on the corners though. The Corsa was holding it up on the corners.

If its a quick straight line car your after, maybe you should be looking at building a car for Crail??

Yeah you drive like a retard on corners and clog it on the straights, annoying **** out of everyone else at the track. Better off learning racecraft, lines and limits in a 1400 Swift or something.

its not just a fast car you need ,or a car that can handle ,or a good driver you need the full package, so the corsa is a better package because it got infront of evo if that makes sense

i have been doing track days in my car since i was 17 and on my bike the last 2 years so why would i want a slow car ? if i was building a corsa turbo for track it would handle and break as good as i could get it and if i am holding some 1 up that much then they should be able to get past me or i am obviously not holding them up that much
