I have a K reg cav turbo with 100k and all even tyres. Ive never had a problem with the 4x4 before, but i reckon the original transfer box has finally failed.
I pulled up on the drive the other day and all was fine, i left the car runnin for a few minutes as usual, and suddenly heard a strange 'squelching' type noise from the engine bay. It sounded like i was about to run out of fuel. It continued for about 30 secs and then the 4x4 light came on. So i cacked myself and switched off the engine immediatly. I left it a while, started it back up and the 4x4 light was still on and then i noticed i had no steering!!! So i switched it off straight away and left it.
I havent noticed any fluid on the floor or anywhere in the engine bay. Im no expert on the vauxhall 4x4 system, but i am assuming that the pressure plate seal has failed allowing PAS fluid into the transfer box. (?)
The problem is i havn't got a clue what to do next! The car hasnt been started since as i dont want to cause any further damage.
Does anyone know if i can drive the car safely in 2WD until i can afford a new transfer box. If there is a way of driving it in 2WD with PAS fully operational, what would be the procedure i take from the stage i am at now?
