my nova's loosing oil but i cant see any smoke or leaks and it aint in the coolant either (would be pissed off if it was cos its just had a new head gasket)
I one of those silly little piperX oil breather filters could this be it??
should i drill the air filter base plate and put the pipe into that?
this is really pissing me off now cos it never used to use anywhere near this amount of oil.
for the help in advance
btw its a 1.4NV with a 1.3 head and new valve steam seals.
well I want aware mine was burning oil until I got a friend (good old Cemesis) to follow me and he then told me there was smoke when a wellied it.
you need to run the engine to check for leaks - I lost some oil this week and then found it was a cracked sump.
Thats what i feared (and thought) its been running very rich at low revs for a while and i seam to remember that this is not good for the rings *understatement* so it looks like a winter rebuild.
Will i have to replace the shells if i disturb them or can i get away with that (please say yes cos on £4 ph i am perminantley broke)

Do a compression test before you decide on a rebuild.
If the headgasket job is very recent than it could be a case of the cilinders resettleing.
hold it at 3K-clean exhaust, rev it from there to 4.5K-cloud of blue smoke so i think its a valve steam seal, one of them was a slack fit when i fitted em but still tighter than the old ones so i thought it would be ok
wont make that mistake again....genuine GM parts this time
so much for my m8's advice ah well i will have to leave it for now cos i aint got the tools to do the rings or change the block so it looks like i am saving up and buying tools/parts then i will do a proper job on it cos it cant be off the road during the week as it takes 3 buses to get to work.
I was told that constant smoke was rings and smoke on reving was steam seals.....is this wrong then
