    Re: C18xe ecotec

The C18XE is known as the "Baby Red-top" only in production for 1 year in the MK3 astra GSI's a very rare beast so not many people will have seen one, I havent but i'd love one!!! Nothing to do with Ecotec's unless thats a reference to the C18XE"L"??? Correct me if im wrong people!

    C16SE + X16XEL Mk3 Astra

    Re: C18xe ecotec

The C18XE isn't an ecotec, it's like the redtop, only smaller! The X18XEV is the ecotec one.

But it's known to be a very good engine, many of them reach over book spec power from standard.

    Re: C18xe ecotec

check engine code then pal runs down the side of the engine dipstick side were gearbox bolts on and see what it says make sure your not getting fobbed off with an ecotech. i have just sold my c18xe and wish i had kept it i was running 171bhp with a few small mod's but an 158bhp with full stainless and de-cat i love these engines and will 100 percent be getting me another one. if it is the c18xe and you have it make sure to get a 4 branchy as the difference these make is unreal

ignition timing and cam timing ar ethe weak points of this engine, mine was 154bhp with raised compression and advanced ignition, would only run on super though.

    Re: C18xe ecotec

as just said above the c18xe only comes in the mk3 astra gsi and this engine was only fitted to the mk3 for 1 year i would check the engine number and make sure 100 percent what engine it is. and yes mate the 4branch is the minifold as the standerd is cast and very restrictive.

the c18xe is the same as the x18xe it just has a red plug cover on,
in no way is the c18xe any thing like the redtop

as for not seeing alot of them about iv had 6 of these and all of them had ecotec plug covers on which is propably why

    Re: C18xe ecotec

Having owned an Astra CD with a C18XE I could see no major differences between it and a C20XE at all even down to the familiar red L shaped plug cover, however I believe the C18XEL was ecotec branded and had the straight black plug cover and the EGR like the X18XE.
