XE corsa erratic idling out of nowhere?????

My corsa XE has always ran perfectly and i have never had any problems with it. tonight i just booted it in second gear from low revs and went up to about 6,000 revs and then when i came to a stop the engine starting idling strangely. The idle started picking up on its own without any revs then dropping down again then up then down etc. It has never done this before.

So i drove it home and the problem calmed down considerably, but its still doing it to a lesser degree, my thoughts are that the rev cable might be caught up or something or a spring on the pedal might have got ****ed when i booted it??? the engine is still running fine and picks up as well as ever but its got this new strange idle. Any ideas what this could be? All help with this is much appreciated as i had planned a long journey tomorow and if this problem persists i wont feel too comfortable driving all that way. cheers lads.

ok so i started it today and its idling constantly at 3000 revs doesnt seem to be dipping any more, what could cause this constant high idle?

as above and have you flashed any fault codes off?
