    c20xe no spark? no codes?

friends c20xe corsa died the other weekend,
he did one run a pod parked up then it wouldn't start,

    so far he's changed,
    plugs,
    cps,
    coil,
    dizzy cap,
    rotor arm,
    ign amp,
    ht leads,
recently had a whole new dizzy on it,
    checked all the earths,
    no codes either,
    still no spark,
assuming he's got fuel as he said plug he took out where soiled/soaked in fuel,

where to go next from here?

    cheers

Check all wiring connections as there is likely to be a loose or an intermittent connection somewhere, particularly check the dizzy blug and wiggle it about while trying to start, and also trace the wires back into the loom as they may have just snapped inside the insulation and thus not looking too aparent that they are snapped inside,, so you may need to feel for where the wire feels weakest and bends easily as that may be where the break is inside.....usually just as they emerge from the looms or connectors.

if you mean the engine management light then yeah he gets that,

i've not had time to run over it with a multimeter yet, i'll tell him too,
or i'll go and do it,
does the coil only get power when you crank it over/start it/run it? when sitting there it's not powered up?

also the way to check the coil resistance as stated in the haynes manual? can any one shed any light on it?
as between us we couldn't make head nor tail of it.

so buzz out the codes if you know how to, goto topbuzz site and they will show you how to, yes the coil should get power when ignition is switched on, assuming there are no other issues like an aftermarket immobiliser or even a hidden switch some people fit and stop using it and then it may get accidently knocked in and they forget all about it, actually happened to me once in my old cally, it was fited with a hidden switch inside the glove box, (who would fit a secret switch inside a glive box needs their head examined, thats the first place thieves look inside) and any way I forgot it was there as I never used it, so one day came back from somewhere and shoved some things inside my glove box and accidently the things knocked the switch to immobilise, and then I couldn't start my engine and it took me a long while to realise that and fortunately on mine it only cut the starter motor circuit and so i was able to push start the car and got home then i realised what it was!

No codes stored on the ECU. Gary meant that the light comes on as it should when you turn the ignition on. All ignition related parts have been changed and all the earths checked, cleaned, checked and checked again lol.

if you'd read all the replies you'd see that we've swapped crank sensor and all checked the earths,
also shagged crank sensor would also stop fuel, which we have.

Re: c20xe no spark? no codes?

Have you checked that his dizzy actualy spins when cranking, by looking at it with its cover removed, the drive may have disengaged or broken and also this can happen if a cam shaft shears in the middle as the front end might continue to spin and the rear end my not and can even result in valves being bent on the rear cylinders. so check to ensure the dizzy spins as it should and you could also check the signals coming out if you know how to, if not i can tell you how to later on.

Its still not starting. compression test done and all ok. New loom fitted and still no change. Seems the only thing thats not been changed is the ECU

shame if it is the ecu, as there isn't a way to test it unless you have a test jig which simulates all the signals and then you monitor the outputs on a oscilloscope. a task for a specialist, hence substitute is the only option here. Try it and come back and tell us how you got on.
