Ok. After putting my knowledge on the subject of engine shells (big ends & main ends) together with the gen I found on MIG I've bought the following:
Glyco 40 Big Ends - These are the daddies lead/irdium and exceed the genuine GM spec ones used by SBD, Swindon etc, who all said these are the best.
Federal Mogule/Glacier Vandervell/A&E Lead copper mains.
For those of you who have looked into 'uprated' shells you would have found out that Federal Mogule own all the companies that make shells, therefore part numbers under their different 'names' are the same. - This is apart from Glacier Vandervell whose name they sold a while back due to the monopolies commission intervention. However they kept GV factory, equipment & spec of shells they used to make (VP1). I can't find anyone who does lead/irdium shells for the mains.
My questions to you guys are:
Is are the Lead/copper mains the best you can get? (Ali/tin was the cheepo alternative GM used later wasn't it??)
If I could find some lead/irdium ones is it safe to use on the mains or are their properties not compatable with their use? (something 1 guy told me but tink it's maybe BS).
Are the A&E shells good (quality)? - I know I said they're all made by the same factory but any comments?
Do you know anyone else who makes 'uprated' shells?
BTW some info for you:
Pay no more than £40 for a set of good quality BE (this is what I paid for my G40's),
Pay no more than £32 for a set of mains.
Both these prices inc. VAT. I found most (all) performance places wanted a hell of a lot more than this. i.e. A&E shells for £85!!!!!!
Cheers for any help.
