I'm about to do a engine conversion on my Calibra 2L 16v (C20XE) 1993 after a internal failure of the engine (water pump seized up, cam belt jumped a few teeth, crank and cams out of sync = bent values etc, expensive rebuild).
So I'm after either a
1) C20LET & F28 4x4 gearbox or
2) C25XE/X25XE parts fitted onto a 3L V6 Omega engine with F28 4x4 gearbox.
But I want to know what legal stuff do I need to do or know about?
When collecting a second hand engine from either a private sale or from a breakers, what paper work or number should I be looking for? I know where the engine number will be, but if the seller doesn't have the log book/V5 form with him, how do I know the engine is legit and not stolen??
Once I got the new engine fitted, I tell the DVLA the new engine capacity and engine number, is that right?
I also tell the insurance company the new details and await huge hike in insurance premium
Is there anything else I should know about before getting a second hand engine??
