I know there's been many discussions about poor idling so sorry to bring it up again - I am getting erractic idling on my M-REG 2 litre Cav SRI. I reckon I've tried most things (regular servicing by Vauxhall, idle valve cleaned out - WELL, all the small bore hoses around the throttle body removed and cleaned out, throttle body stud cleaned, new air filter, fitted crankcase breather oil trap, etc...).
The fault is this: The car will be running like a dream and be OK for ages. Then as I draw up to junction, rather than idling at 800 ish, it will be revving high at about 1200. Then a couple of seconds later, the engine simply dies out. WHY? I've always looked after this mota (I've had loads of Mk.2 Cavs, which were a bit beat-up, but this car's really nice and it's had a fair few quid spent on it already). Does anyone have any advice on what next to check, do, replace... I'm stuck now 'cos I think I've gone through all the usual stuff and otherwise the car performs ACE.
One thing to note, this problem has never happened when the engine is cold - only when it's hot (long journey or after some stick).
Anyone else with similar problems?
