For those ppl who have a trip computer fitted to their cars (mostly those retro-fitting), this post on CavWeb may interest you - http://www.cavweb-forums.co.uk/showt...&threadid=6685
Ian has written a program that will read and reprogram the Vauxhall trip computers so that they are calibrated to your car no matter what car they previously came out of e.g. get that Carlton 6 cylinder trip computer to work in your 1.8 Cavalier !!!!
Previously, if you managed to get a trip computer from another car to fit in yours, then the only way to get it to work properly e.g. MPG accurate was to take it to Vauxhall and be charged £20+
For this, you also had to supply them with the code for the program you wanted e.g. 119 for C20LET.
Now Ian has offered to re-program the computer for you for nothing more than the cost of postage to and from himself.
All that he needs you to do is to remove the white module from the back of the trip computer, pack it up and send the white block off to him.
The re-programming takes around 5 mins.
Also - He is working on being able to calibrate the computer for individual cars. If you use wheels/tyre sizes which are not original to your car e.g. 17" wheels instead of 16" on turbos then the computer results are not accurate for things like average speed etc.
What Ian is still working on just now is the ability to re-program the computers to be accurate for your own specific wheel size i.e. extremely accurate and specific to your own car.
Now, Ian needs a favour. In order for him to build up a concise "library" of programs he would like to know the specific engine from the car you recived the trip computer from when you sedn it so he can read its memory before re-programming it.
Also - He is particularly interested in any V6 or straight 6 owners which came factory fitted with trip computers so he can get some info on this.
*** If anyone can get "access" to a Tech 1 machine for a day then he should be able to get all the programming codes from this to put into his laptop ***
Anyone passing Jct 4 of the M25 that can help him out with this then let him know on CavWeb. Even those that dont need re-programed, he can meet up with you, take 5-10 mins to plug his laptop in to your Trip Computer and read its memory codes so he can build up a library for future ppl that will need it.
Anyways, here is that link again for the post.... The more ppl that can help, the more ppl will be helped in the future by it......
Cheers for reading
