Why doesn't the anti-theft security light for my sterio head unit work properly in my 1991 mk2 astra? It only flashes when i have the ignition on, whereas in my old mk1 Astra it would flash all the time.
Also i can't switch on my sterio without the ignition switch on, which i could do in my old car. The funny thing is, that the original philips sterio in my mk2 worked with the ignition on or off regardless.
it appears my head unit isn't getting a constant power supply, so what wire needs to be adjusted?
This one is easy. Most stereo's are wired so they don't work without the ignition (so they don't flatten the battery), mk2 Astra's seem to be wired differently, or at least some do.
Take out the stereo and you will see 2 power wires one large and one small. One is permenent feed to the battery and the other is to the ignition. Just wire the ignition one to the battery (or the other power wire) and thats it, as long as the fuse is high enough (the added load is normally only 1 amp) all will be fine.
Slight problem- What colour is the thick permanent +12 wire that i'm supposed to connect to the ignition wire to (thin RED one)- the only thick wire i've got on the cars radio loom is BROWN and that is connected through the ISO to the sterios BLACK earth wire (for some reason).
The cars sterio wiring loom has a BLACK wire which connects to an ORANGE (+12 memory) wire at the ISO to the head unit.
